Recent Lakers rumors are that Tyronn Lue is the name most frequently mentioned as the potential coach to replace Luke Walton.
As the season comes to a close for the Los Angeles Lakers, most Lakers rumors will be about who the next coach of the team will be. Since the Lakers did not make the playoffs this season and there was a lot of drama surrounding the team, it appears like Luke Walton will be the man who loses his job over it all.
While the Lakers missing the playoffs isn’t all Walton’s fault, the team will likely be going in a new direction this summer. If the Lakers do decide to go in a new direction, who they get to replace Walton will be very important.
Recently, Marc Stein of the New York Times wrote about Tyronn Lue being the most frequent named mentioned to replace Walton. Here’s what he had to say.
"Who, then, will the Lakers hire? The name most frequently cited in league coaching circles is the very available Tyronn Lue."
While Lue might not get the credit he deserves as a head coach, he has a good record and has won an NBA Championship. After taking over the Cleveland Cavaliers job in the 2015-16 season, Lue and the Cavs went on to win the NBA Championship that season.
The following two seasons with LeBron, the Cavaliers won the Eastern Conference, but were defeated by the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. Early this season, Lue was fired by the Cavaliers after an 0-6 start to the season.
Overall, Lue has a 128-83 record in the regular season and a very impressive 41-20 record in the playoffs. Having a great player like LeBron certainly has helped, but Lue has a strong record as the coach.
With his familiarity with LeBron and a good coaching record, Lue is certainly a viable coaching option for the Lakers. Compared to a coach like Jason Kidd, who has a losing record, Lue is a better option. We will have to see what Walton’s fate is, Lue can certainly be an option for the Lakers.
