Recent Lakers rumors are that the coaching staff is expected to be fired shortly after the final game of the season.

With the season coming to an end for the Los Angeles Lakers, there are going to be a ton of Lakers rumors this offseason. Just prior to the start of their final game of the season, Magic Johnson decided to step down as president of basketball operations.

This is a shocking move that nobody saw coming, as he announced it during an impromptu press conference and didn’t even tell Jeanie Buss prior. This announcement will have a huge impact on the team moving forward, as this was expected to be an offseason full of change.

One of the changes that many believe is coming will be to the coaching staff. After a disappointing seasons, Luke Walton being fired is something that we have all expected to be coming for a few weeks now.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers are expected to part ways with their coaching staff shortly after the final game of the season.

With the news of Magic stepping down, the Lakers look like they will be cleaning house this offseason, and starting with the coaching staff. The disappointing season for the Lakers isn’t all because of the coaching staff, as injuries really derailed their season.

However, with six straight seasons of missing the playoffs, change seemed inevitable. It was already thought that this would be a busy offseason for the Lakers with the desire to sign another max player. Now, the Lakers will be searching for a new president of operations, and that person will likely be adding a new coach.

What will be interesting to see next is what happens to Rob Pelinka as the general manager. If the Lakers are going to be adding a new president, Pelinka’s job is far from safe. With the final game of the season on Tuesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers, expect it to be the last game we see Walton as the head coach of the Lakers.
