Recent Lakers rumors are that LeBron James was shocked like everyone else about the resignation of Magic Johnson.

With the offseason here for the Los Angeles Lakers, there have been plenty of Lakers rumors lately surrounding the team.

Just prior to the final game of the season for the Lakers, Magic Johnson held an impromptu press conference and resigned as president of basketball operations.

While this was not a successful season for the Los Angeles Lakers, this decision by Johnson was certainly something that nobody saw coming. Even though the Lakers didn’t achieve their goals this season, there are a lot of reasons why they can succeed next season.

The Lakers have a LeBron James, a strong young core, cap space, and a lottery pick. Seeing Johnson step down at this point is rather shocking, and it certainly caught LeBron James off guard.

According to Ramon Shelburne, James was surprised, but is standing by the organization. Here’s what Shelburne had to say.

"LeBron James was stunned to learn of Magic Johnson’s decision to step down as the Los Angeles Lakers’ president of basketball operations, a source with knowledge of James’ thinking told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. But despite Johnson’s abrupt resignation, James stands behind Lakers owner Jeanie Buss and the organization, the source told Shelburne."

Seeing reports that James still stands by the Lakers is very good. Johnson certainly played a large role in recruiting James to Los Angeles, and him leaving might have discouraged James.

However, with Johnson gone, the Lakers will need to provide some stability to the organization, starting from the top down. The Lakers will need to find a new president of basketball operations to lead them in what will be a crucial offseason.

The Lakers are set up to be big players in free agency for a max player, but they need to have an organization that isn’t a mess. Unfortunately with no president and a head coach in limbo, the Lakers are not a stable franchise right now.

We will have to see what the future holds for the Lakers. Hopefully, they are able to get a steady hand as the president of basketball operations to lead the franchise moving forward.
