Recent Lakers rumors are that Los Angeles will be meeting with Tyronn Lue on Friday.
With the offseason in full swing for the Los Angeles Lakers, there have been plenty of rumors surrounding the team. With vacancies on the coaching staff and in the front office, the Lakers have a lot of work to do this summer.
As of now, it appears like they aren’t in a hurry to get a new president of basketball operations. If the Lakers were to hire a new president, that would likely be their first priority this offseason. This position is usually at the top of the front office, and without a head coach, that person would certainly want a say in that decision.
However, it seems like general manager Rob Pelinka has seen his role increase amidst the chaos. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Pelinka will be starting the interview process to find a new head coach with Tyronn Lue.
When it became clear that Luke Walton wasn’t going to be coaching the Lakers next season, there were a few names that popped up as potential replacements rather quickly. Among those names was Ty Lue.
Lue has had a very good coaching record in the NBA as the head coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers. His time with LeBron James in Cleveland resulted in the Cavaliers winning an NBA Title, and also taking home a few Eastern Conference Championships.
Despite his success with the Cavaliers, Lue doesn’t get much credit as a head coach. However, most great coaches have had great players on their teams, but many believe that Lue’s success is simply because he had LeBron.
With this being one of the first reported meetings for the head coaching vacancy of the Lakers, it would appear like the Lakers are high on Lue. Due to his familiarity with James, the match certainly makes sense. However, seeing Pelinka reportedly conducting the interview could be an indication that he will be running the show this offseason. If true, that is a big development for the Lakers as well.
