Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors involve their vacant head coaching position, as Jason Kidd reportedly interviewed this week.

In recent days there have been plenty of Los Angeles Lakers rumors floating around about the team’s head coaching vacancy.

General manager Rob Pelinka has been running the search as the organization is still without a president of basketball operations after Magic Johnson resigned on the final day of the regular season.

The two people rumored most to be taking over the Lakers‘ head coaching job has been Tyronn Lue and Monty Williams. Miami Heat assistant coach Juwan Howard is also expected to interview for the position.

Lue coached the Cleveland Cavaliers to a title in 2016. His relationship and previous experience working with LeBron James put him firmly in the running for the job. The working relationship with James will be imperative to finding success in Los Angeles.

Williams is someone that is well respected around the league. He is currently an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers but is expected to have a second interview with the Lakers soon.

If Williams is who the Lakers want, they will have to move fast. The Phoenix Suns are also showing interest in Williams after firing head coach Igor Kokoskov. So, if Williams is who the team wants, they will have to move quickly.

Now, another option is coming into the discussion. According to Dave McMenamin and ESPN, Jason Kidd interviewed for the team’s head coaching vacancy this week.

McMenamin added that the interview was held by Pelinka and Kurt Rambis, who is a team executive. In addition, McMenamin noted that the interview lasted for several hours.

While Kidd was an exceptional point guard on the court, his performance as a head coach has been spotty. Kidd spent one season with the Brooklyn Nets, qualifying for the playoffs. However, he wanted more power within the organization. When he was not granted that, he forced his way out and joined the Milwaukee Bucks.

Kidd lasted three and a half seasons with the Bucks, qualifying for the postseason in two of his three full campaigns. However, given the current state of the Bucks, who were the No. 1 team in the Eastern Conference this season, it is fair to question if Kidd got the most out of his team.

However, it was noted that Kidd isn’t expected to be a serious contender for the job. That is something that Lakers’ fans should rest easy about, as he is probably the least inspiring option of the people who have been mentioned thus far.
