Here are the five biggest reasons why the Los Angeles Lakers didn’t have a successful 2018-19 season.

This Los Angeles Lakers season was supposed to be the start of the revival of Showtime in Los Angeles with the man that led the point back then, now leading the front office and the Lakers back to prominence. Instead that plan was a giant failure, and a series of major disappointments have Lakers fans sick to their stomachs heading into this offseason.

At this point, it is an understatement to say that this Lakers’ season was a disappointment, and there were plenty of reasons for it. The shocking conclusion of the 2018-19 season with Magic Johnson stepping down as the Lakers’ President of Basketball Operations and head coach Luke Walton parting ways with the team is pretty symbolic of how chaotic this season was for the once glamorous franchise.

For an offseason that started by signing a bright star in LeBron James, it quickly turned into the darkest days in Lakers history after he and pretty much every important player on the team went down with injuries, causing them to struggle in the second half of the season. No one really expected the Lakers to realistically upset the Golden State Warriors for the Western Conference crown this season, but most fans deemed this season a failure if they missed the playoffs for a sixth straight season, and they did just that.

The most frustrating part of this Lakers season, was that they showed glimpses of their full potential when healthy by beating the top teams in their conference like the Warriors, Nuggets, Blazers, and Rockets. However, just when they would get a big win or look like they were headed in the right direction, they would play down to their competition and lose a game they had no business losing.

This season’s shortcomings stem from its inception, the poor decision making from the front office that was evident in almost every move after they signed James. Their poor roster construction and inability to handle the trade deadline with any competency whatsoever, were major reasons why this season turned out the way it did.

Now with the bitter taste in their mouth, the Lakers head into this offseason with promises of adding another superstar to help revive the team, similar to the same plan that failed last season and the four years prior to it.  That could either save the franchise completely or be another repeat failure.

Here are the five biggest reasons why this season resulted in a failure.
