Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors will disappoint some people, as the organization hasn’t even reached out to some high profile front office people.
Los Angeles Lakers rumors in recent weeks have been dominated by the head coach and front office shakeup. Los Angeles saw a change in the power structure hours before their regular season finale when Magic Johnson resigned as president of basketball operations.
Just a few days later, Luke Walton and the team mutually agreed to part ways and he quickly agreed to join the Sacramento Kings as head coach.
With two prominent positions open and a big offseason on the horizon, nailing these hires is extremely important. An unexpected reset was being provided to the Lakers, but they have yet to take advantage.
With LeBron James already in place, a lottery pick and cap space, a quick turnaround could happen for the Lakers. Getting experienced, successful people to fill those voids would be smart, but the Lakers seem content with Rob Pelinka in place, with Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis reportedly running the show.
How content are the Lakers with their current structure? They reportedly aren’t even reaching out to potential replacements.

According to Sam Amick and Bill Oram of The Athletic, the Lakers have not yet reached out to any high profile front office people. Bob Myers, David Griffin and Jerry West were three people fans would hope would be brought aboard, but the Lakers have reportedly not talked to any of them.
Prior to accepting a job with the New Orleans Pelicans, they reported that Griffin was never reached out to by the Lakers. Griffin was the general manager with the Cleveland Cavaliers when they won the NBA Championship in 2016.
Myers, the current general manager of the Golden State Warriors, has not yet been reached out to, either. The same reportedly goes for West.
The Lakers, reportedly, have a person lined up to take the place of Johnson who is running things behind the scenes. There are also reports that the organization has no plans to replace Johnson, so it is anyone’s guess right now what the Lakers will do.
Los Angeles has missed a golden chance to wipe the slate clean and start things over. Bringing in someone without ties to the Lakers would have been a step in the right direction.
Instead, Pelinka is still entrenched as the general manager with growing power. No established front office person is going to step into a position that already has a powerful general manager, who has the backing of ownership, and his handpicked head coach.
