Recent Lakers rumors are that Monty Williams going to the Phoenix Suns is gaining momentum.
With the NBA Playoffs now in the second round, recent Lakers rumors have been about who their next head coach will be.
As of now, the Lakers haven’t reportedly offered the job to anyone. However, it appears like Monty Williams and Tyronn Lue are the two favorites to land the job. Williams is still currently an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers, who are playing the Toronto Raptors in the second round.
The 76ers have had a very successful season with a very talented roster, and that has certainly helped Williams’ coaching stock rise. As of now, many believe that Williams is the top coaching option available. So far, the Lakers have interviewed Williams twice, but according to Marc Stein, Williams to the Suns is gaining some momentum.
Strong rumblings from the NBA grapevine tonight: Monty Williams landing in Phoenix as the next Suns coach is a scenario gaining real momentum

Compared to the Lakers, the Suns would be a very different landing spot for Williams. Like the Lakers, the Suns have a talented young core led by Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton. However, they were one of the worst teams in the league last season, and making the playoffs next season would be highly unlikely.
However, if Williams wants to go into a low-pressure situation with some upside in the years to come, Phoenix would be a good spot. For the Lakers, if they want Williams to be their next head coach, they might have to move quickly if the Suns are closing in.
With LeBron James on the team, the Lakers’ roster is certainly in a better position to win than the Suns. However, there will be a lot of pressure on Williams to get the Lakers back into the playoffs.
It will be interesting to see what happens with Williams, as he seems to be the most-coveted coaching candidate this offseason. After two interviews, the Lakers should have an idea about whether or not they think Williams can be their man.
