Lakers Rumors: Tyronn Lue was always top choice for Los Angeles

With it looking like Tyronn Lue becoming the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, recent Lakers rumors are that he was the top choice.
There have been plenty of Lakers rumors in the past few weeks about the head coaching position, and it looks like it will all be settled soon. According to reports, Monty Williams will be taking the Phoenix Suns head coaching job.
As one of the two top candidates for the Lakers, Williams going to the Suns has resulted in the Lakers reportedly moving on Tyronn Lue. Choosing which one would be better for the Lakers has been the topic of debate when it became clear that they were the top two choices.
While the Suns will be getting their guy in Williams, the Lakers are reportedly still getting their top choice in Lue.
Ty Lue is in Las Vegas and is waiting to hear from the Lakers about the job, per sources. His reps and the Lakers are supposed to talk today about trying to get a deal done. Lue has always been Lakers top choice, per source.

With a good amount of experience as a head coach and an NBA Championship under his belt, Lue is a pretty safe hire for the Lakers. Considering that he is the winner of a championship, there hasn’t been as much hype around him as a coach.
Without a president of basketball operations, Jeanie Buss has entrusted the coaching search to a small circle of people. However, one name that recently came out and gave Lue an endorsement was Phil Jackson.
Former Lakers great championship coach Phil Jackson also suggested to owner Jeanie Buss that Ty Lue would be a really good coach for the Lakers, per sources.

Jackson and Buss obviously have a long history together, and while his recommendations might not mean much to people in New York, the Zen Master is still well-respected in Los Angeles.

While no official offer has been made to Lue yet, it seems like that should be coming very soon. After a disappointing season, Lue will be taking over a team that could have the talent to win a championship next season depending on how the offseason goes. As a coach that has won with LeBron, the pressure shouldn’t bother Lue.
