4. He was surprisingly good on offense

JaVale McGee, prior to this season, was never thought of as an offensive threat. He was seen as the kind of guy who got almost all of his points on fast breaks and garbage baskets.

But, as it turned out, McGee proved that he’s got more game than that. At times, the Lakers would get him the ball in the post when the game slowed down, and he would score points by shooting a retro-looking sweeping hook that almost brought to mind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar‘s skyhook.

He also proved to be a great option at or near the rim, as his teammates got him the ball there quite often, and he provided some nice highlights by throwing down alley-oop passes.

In his first 29 games, he averaged 11.8 points per game on a white-hot 62.6 percent shooting from the field. After he contracted pneumonia in mid-December and was hospitalized as a result, his effectiveness dipped somewhat through the dog days of the season.

However, he was back at it in March, putting up 14.9 points a game and shooting a ridiculous 66 percent in his last 20 games while playing 25.5 minutes a game.
