3. Moritz Wagner

During his tenure with the Cavaliers, Lue deployed an offense that was heavy on floor spacing. LeBron was surrounded by 3-point shooters, spacing the floor so that he can operate, making it difficult for defenses to double-team him. One player who was key to this was Kevin Love.

With Kevin Love at center, the Cavaliers had a stretch-5 that would keep the middle open. Moritz Wagner isn’t on Love’s level, but he could play a similar role for the Lakers in Lue’s offense.

Coming out of Michigan, Wagner was lauded for his offensive ability. He had range beyond the 3-point line to open things up and also be a facilitator in the high post. Love was deployed in a similar fashion and is someone that Wagner should watch plenty of tape on.

While Wagner had a rough rookie season, he did flash at times. His skill set is very similar to Love’s, as he is a good rebounder with limitations defensively. Wagner won’t be relied upon as heavily as Love was, but Lue’s offense will help get the most out of Wagner if he is deployed in a similar fashion as Love was during his Cavaliers days.
