Lakers Rumors: Some within Pelicans liked offer for Anthony Davis
By Nick Ziegler
Recent Lakers Rumors are that the officials of the New Orleans Pelicans thought the trade offer for Anthony Davis was pretty good.
With the offseason here for the Los Angeles Lakers, there have been plenty of Lakers rumors regarding multiple aspects of the team.
Most recently, those rumors have been about the coaching situation for the Lakers. With Monty Williams going to the Phoenix Suns, it is expected that Tyronn Lue will be the next head coach of the Lakers.
With the coaching situation appearing to be settling down for the Lakers, a recent Lakers rumor is about the saga regarding Anthony Davis during the season. According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com, officials with the Pelicans were interested in the deal with the Lakers. Here’s what he said with text via LakersNation.com.
"“I’ve spoken to people within the Pelicans organization and they admitted that that package was pretty attractive. But they also admitted it looks a lot different now when considering Ingram than it did back then.”"
Considering that the Lakers were reportedly offering up pretty much every member of their talented young core for Davis, it should have resulted in more interest from the Pelicans than it did.
After it became known that Davis wanted to go to the Lakers, it seemed like no offer would be enough for then general manager, Dell Demps, to pull the trigger.
However, Demps is no longer with the Pelicans, and that could result in the two sides opening up a dialogue about Davis once again this summer. However, as in McMenamin’s report, the health of Brandon Ingram is certainly a big question mark now.
Since Davis is one of the best players in the league, the Pelicans are going to certainly want quite a bit if they are going to trade him. However, with his desire to leave and potentially only sign long-term, it limits their options.
The big offer that the Lakers made during the season might not be the same one that they are willing to make months later. With a new front office for the Pelicans, it will be interesting to see what their plan is with Davis and what their willingness to deal with Los Angeles is. If they are willing to deal, the Lakers are certainly a potential trade partner.
