Los Angeles Lakers Draft: The two Duke possibilities not named Zion
By Ronald Agers
The Los Angeles Lakers have the fourth pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. While a lot of attention is being given to Zion Williamson, he had two teammates at Duke that could interest the Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers draft shines the light on better days for the Lakers and the Lake Show Life staff. One, we actually have something to write about besides the 4,775,333 missteps the franchise has made in the last 10-11 months. Two, the Lakers defied some serious odds to obtain the 4th pick in the draft.
I mean don’t you agree that conversations about potential players surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers draft are a tad bit less exhausting? Well, it is for me. This draft is already starting to become a beacon of hope for the Los Angeles Lakers. This is no joke.
Lake Show Life has already started our draft coverage taking a long look at Darius Garland, the point guard out of Vanderbilt who left the NBA Draft combine earlier this week. With the reports of a potential promise of a high pick, some would assume the Lakers will take him with the 4th pick.
However, I stated in his analysis the same phrase that will be in every potential player that is looked at.
The Pelicans will draft Zion Williamson. The Grizzlies will draft Ja Morant with the second pick. The consensus has the Knicks picking R.J. Barrett. The Knicks sometimes are not in line with consensus reports. For example according to SNY.tv:
"The Knicks have the No. 3 pick. If they keep the pick, no one expects them to pass on R.J. Barrett or Ja Morant, who reportedly will be selected by Memphis at No. 2. But there is intrigue with Culver. Per SNY sources, some members of the Knicks front office are still enamored with the 20-year-old. Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean that New York would select Culver with the third pick. And it’s unknown if the high opinion of Culver is shared by a majority or minority of Knicks decision makers. But the Knicks will certainly take and make calls about possibly trading up and down the draft in the coming days and weeks. And Culver, currently projected as the sixth pick in ESPN’s mock draft, would certainly be a candidate for New York if the club traded back in the draft."
So, if this report is true, there is an opportunity that R.J. Barrett could fall in the laps of the Los Angeles Lakers which would be a bigger shock than the Lakers sliding into the 4th spot in the draft. It bears noting that there is a possibility of the Knicks trading down to obtain future draft picks.
Think of the Trae Young/Luka Doncic swap on draft night between the Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks. Many forgot that the Hawks obtained the Mavericks first-round pick in this year’s draft as a part of the deal. If the Knicks have that option, they may take it.
With that being said, there will be a two for one analysis taking a look at Zion Williamson’s two teammates, R. J. Barrett and Cam Reddish. Both players have been linked to the Lakers.
Cam Reddish spent some time in meetings with the Los Angeles Lakers. According to him, he had a lot of people in the room so to speak.
Well, Lakers fans, let’s have our own meeting of the minds. Let’s break down the other “one and dones” on the Duke roster.
Introducing R.J. Barrett and Cam Reddish.
