Lakers Rumors: Kyrie Irving open to joining LeBron James in Los Angeles

Recent Lakers rumors are that Kyrie Irving could be open to coming to the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency this summer.

With plenty of Lakers rumors soon to come about free agency and the NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers will be hoping to land another star to play alongside LeBron James.

The plan all along for the Lakers was to clear cap space and sign two superstars the past few seasons. After clearing the space, the Lakers were able to sign LeBron James last summer.

Getting James to come to Los Angeles was a huge first step for the franchise. However, they were unable to pair another star with him over the summer. Now, the Lakers did preserve the cap space necessary to pursue another star in a loaded free agency class this summer.

One of the potential free agents that the Lakers might pursue is Kyrie Irving. Despite demanding to be traded from Cleveland and away from LeBron, the two sides seem to have patched things up. Recent, Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com spoke about the possible reunion between the two. Here’s what Windhorst had to say via LakersNation.com.

"“If you had asked me six months ago, I’d have said the door was closed and locked. That was not going to happen. But over the last few months, there has no doubt been a thawing between Kyrie and LeBron. And Kyrie has become more open to joining the Lakers and has done some research on the organization.”"

Irving joining the Lakers would certainly be a big deal considering the level of player that he is, and his past success with LeBron. Not too long ago, it seemed that these two would never consider playing together. However, Irving and LeBron seemed to have put some of the things in the past behind them, and could reunite this summer.

As one of the best players available in free agency, Irving will surely be highly sought after. With their past together, James and Irving will likely be in contact at some point this summer to perhaps discuss the past and the future together.

Since Irving wasn’t able to find the success on his own that he sought as the main guy in Boston, he might be willing to once again be James’ sidekick. The two have certainly had success in that scenario, and Irving was able to make a name for himself. With free agency quickly approaching, we will have to see what the future holds for Irving.
