Los Angeles Lakers: What is the likelihood of an Anthony Davis trade?
By Ethan Temkin
After the chaos of the 2019 Draft Lottery, it’s time to re-assess a potential Anthony Davis trade, and the chances that a deal can still happen for the Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers had Lady Luck on their side during the NBA Draft Lottery. The 2019 Draft Lottery was an eventful event that saw not one, but three teams, jump into the Top-4.
Although the Lakers moved up from the No. 11 projected spot all the way to the No. 4, the New Orleans Pelicans were ultimately the winners of that night, nabbing the No. 1 pick and clearing the way to draft Duke phenom, Zion Williamson.
Perhaps the bigger story for the Pelicans isn’t the chance to land a potentially once-in-a-decade kind of player, but more so what they can do with their other once-in-a-decade player in Anthony Davis. Before the lottery, the Pelican’s options were limited, but now, David Griffin and the Pelican’s front office hold all the cards.
But to answer the bigger question at large, which is, what the likelihood the Lakers can make a trade happen for Anthony Davis?
The answer to that question relies on a number of factors, such as how much the Lakers are willing to give up, how New Orleans feels about other team’s trade packages, and perhaps most importantly, where Davis will express a desire to sign a long-term extension.
At the moment, there really only appears to be three teams that have both the assets and motivation to trade for Davis; the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers.
To determine the likelihood the Lakers can trade for Davis, let’s look at the other two teams and see how their assets match up with the Lakers.
