Recent Lakers rumors are that they might be a potential suitor for Marcus Morris in free agency.

With NBA Free Agency right around the corner, there has been no shortage of Lakers rumors leading up to July.

Since the Lakers have the cap space necessary to sign a max level free agent, they are going to be major players in free agency. While the Lakers will be doing their best to get a star to come to Los Angeles, they will also be looking to fill out the team a bit better than they did last summer.

While adding veterans on one-year deals preserved cap space for this summer, the Lakers didn’t surround LeBron James with shooters, which hurt the team on the offensive end of the court.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Lakers will be a potential suitor for Marcus Morris this summer. Here you can read the entire article by Charania with a paid subscription to The Athletic.

Morris is certainly an interesting name to keep an eye on this summer, as he is coming off a solid year with the Boston Celtics. In the 2018-19 season, Morris averaged 13.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

As a hybrid forward, Morris brings a lot of versatility to the lineup, which is something that is needed in the NBA these days. What might be very appealing for the Lakers is that Morris is a strong three-point shooter at 6’9”. Last season, the Lakers didn’t really have a stretch big man, or many shooters at all on the roster. Morris was a 37.5 percent shooter from three-point land last season, and he took 5.1 attempts per game.

Even though the Celtics fell short of their playoff goals this season, Morris performed quite well. He was able to elevate his play in the playoffs by averaging 13.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Also, he shot over 40 percent from beyond the arc in the playoffs.

While Morris shouldn’t be priority No.1 for the Lakers, he could be a strong secondary piece for the team. It will likely all come down to the price tag, but Morris would be a nice fit in Los Angeles.
