Los Angeles Lakers: 3 Things to consider when trading for Anthony Davis
Here are a few things to consider for the Los Angeles Lakers as they attempt to trade for Anthony Davis.
The moment many Los Angeles Lakers fans have been waiting for may finally be approaching. Monday, June 10th, Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers “lead the clubhouse” in the Anthony Davis trade sweepstakes. He also added that the Pelicans would ideally like to come to an agreement to deal Davis by this upcoming weekend, and would likely need a three-team trade to pull it off. This all came after Davis clarified his desire to play for the Lakers or Knicks.
It seems like the Pelicans are more ready than ever to trade away Anthony Davis, and Lakers currently stand as the overwhelming favorites to land the superstar. No deal has been agreed upon yet, but NBA fans will be updating their twitter accounts at a rapid pace for the upcoming next few days to see where AD lands. If he does indeed get dealt by this weekend’s end.
This isn’t a new story for Lakers fans. LA let Paul George and Kawhi Leonard get away by refusing to trade away enough assets. George ended up signing a long-term deal with the Thunder, and Kawhi Leonard will enter free agency an NBA champion this year, which would indicate a re-up with the Raptors. This time though, the Lakers are more serious than ever.
The past few seasons the Lakers have been reluctant to trade away enough value to procure superstars whom expressed their desire to play in LA. The front office wrongly assumed that the superstars would sign with LA come free agency anyways, and therefore trading too much value wouldn’t be worth it.
Now things are different, however. The Lakers have LeBron James, who isn’t getting any younger. This means LA will have to try and capitalize now. Despite the disarray of a front office, the organization made the right offer to try and acquire Davis by the deadline. Less educated Lakers fans would say that trading away the entire young core wouldn’t be a wise decision, but I couldn’t agree less.
There are a few points that both the Lakers front office will hopefully acknowledge and I encourage Lakers Fans to think about.
