Recent Lakers rumors are that they have shown an interest in Al Horford with free agency approaching.

With free agency almost here, there have been plenty of Lakers rumors. The Los Angeles Lakers made the first big splash this offseason by agreeing to trade for Anthony Davis.

Getting Davis changes the landscape of the NBA, as he and LeBron James will be forming one of the top duos in the league, if not the best. With Davis on his way, the Lakers will now be focusing on rounding out their roster.

While we are still waiting to see how much cap space the Lakers will have, they could create enough for another max contract. With the ability to do so, the Lakers will certainly have their eyes on some big fish.

One name that has been linked to is Al Horford. According to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, the Lakers are one of the teams that have shown an interest in Horford. Here’s what he had to say.

"“The Mavericks are considered favorites to land Celtics free-agent big man Al Horford, according to league sources, and the two Los Angeles teams are said to also have interest, though they both have their sights set on bigger fish like Kawhi Leonard.”"

With it looking like the Celtics will be losing both Kyrie Irving and Horford, they are definitely heading toward a poor offseason. Horford is an interesting name to be linked to the Lakers, as they currently have a pretty full front court with James, Davis, and Kuzma.

The Lakers seem to believe that they will be firmly in the hunt for Kawhi Leonard this offseason. If Leonard is interested, signing him should obviously be the first priority. However, Leonard signing does seem a bit unlikely at this point. So, planning for the possibility that he doesn’t come is smart also.

Horford is a very versatile big man, who can stretch the floor and also be somewhat of a floor general from the power forward or center position. However, with the three best players on the Lakers currently being able to play power forward, they will likely be prioritizing a guard or wing player before Horford.
