4. The young guys they gave up are somewhat injury prone

If you have been Laker fan since Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball were drafted, or if you just followed them at all last season, then it is clear that they are not the most durable players.

Ingram came into the league with a slight wiry frame that seemingly makes him more susceptible to injuries because he does not absorb contact well. He also had a very serious and scary issue at the end of the season that involved DVT blood clots in his right arm at the end of the season. It is yet to be seen if Ingram can become the same player on the court since these issues, and it is the same type of injury that suddenly ended Chris Bosh‘s career.

Lonzo has similar issues as Ingram, struggling with growing into his body, and that has caused him to be in and out of the line up for his entire two-year stint in purple and gold. Ball missed an astounding 39 percent of his games as a Laker since he was drafted, and it became frustrating not being able to consistently see him in the lineup.

Injuries pretty much derailed the Lakers season last year, and Ingram, Ball, and even Josh Hart were a big part of that. They all missed at least 15 games due to injury, and none of them have played more than 70 games in a season in their short careers.

These guys can easily continue to develop their bodies into more NBA sustainable products, and might not have to worry about injuries in the future. Even Stephen Curry struggled with injuries during his career and turned into the legend everyone now knows.

However, the Lakers just do not have the time to wait on these guys to develop in the win now era of The King. Even though Davis has the reputation of being one of the most injury affected players in the league, he has played more than 70 games multiple times in his career. Last season was the first time he ever played less than 60 games and that was mainly because of the Pelicans sitting him for tanking purposes.
