Los Angeles Lakers: 4 reasons to sign Brook Lopez
By Robert Marvi
No matter what star(s) the Los Angeles Lakers may acquire in the next several weeks, filling out their team with dependable role players should not be overlooked. A former Laker needs to be on that list on dependable role players to target in free agency
Now that the NBA Finals are over and the Toronto Raptors outlasted the uber-resilient Golden State Warriors to win their first ever world championship, we can now turn our full focus to the Los Angeles Lakers’ attempts to build a championship team around LeBron James.
Unless something really strange happens in the next six weeks, Anthony Davis will become a Laker. As exciting as that is, and as exciting as it would be to then sign a top-level free agent, the task of building a championship-caliber team won’t be over.
As we’ve seen with the Raptors, role players like Kyle Lowry, Marc Gasol, Fred VanVleet and Serge Ibaka are vital for a team’s hopes at hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy.
One only needs to look to the Lakers’ rich tradition to find other examples of role players who were unsung but indispensable. Derek Fisher, Robert Horry and Kurt Rambis, among others, all say hi.
There was a role player they signed to a one year contract last season who had a pretty successful season, only to depart for the Milwaukee Bucks this season who they should strongly consider: Brook Lopez.
Here’s why he can contribute to a team that will hopefully leave us with tons of sweet memories.
