Los Angeles Lakers: 4 reasons to sign Brook Lopez
By Robert Marvi
3. He can protect the rim
Brook Lopez may not evoke memories of Dikembe Mutombo on the defensive end, but he is a player who can be counted on to block shots and defend the paint.
He has a career average of 1.7 blocks per game in 30.9 minutes a game played. This season with the Bucks he upped that to 2.2 blocks in 28.7 minutes a game.
Not only that, but he can also effectively defend against the low post. Last season, opposing players made only 30.8 percent of their shots while posting Lopez up, which was second in the league.
In case you’ve forgotten, Lopez is a full seven feet tall and weighs 270 lbs. He may be more lanky than stocky, but he casts a pretty imposing figure defensively, and with new head coach Frank Vogel, who is a defensive-minded coach, Lopez could do even better this time around if he indeed returns to the purple and gold.
