Former Los Angeles Lakers guard, D’Angelo Russell, might find himself as an unrestricted free agent. Here are three reasons why the Lakers should pursue a reunion.

A few years ago, the Los Angeles Lakers made a very big decision to trade their former No.2 overall pick, D’Angelo Russell. With a new president in Magic Johnson and general manager in Rob Pelinka, they had a vision for the future of the Lakers that didn’t include Russell.

After making a few awful signings in Luol Deng and Timofey Mozgov, the Lakers’ new front office wanted to try and clear some cap space. However, moving Mozgov’s contract came at an expensive price.

Since being traded by the Lakers, Russell has had a lot of success in Brooklyn with the Nets. Despite making the playoffs and having a career year, the Nets might be thinking bigger than Russell with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant being free agents.

Even though the Nets might want to add two big stars, that doesn’t mean that Russell isn’t deserving of a big new deal. If the Nets were to pursue Kyrie and Durant, that would mean that Russell would likely become an unrestricted free agent.

At just 23-years-old now, Russell would be hitting free agency at a young age, as he still isn’t in his prime. While we will have to wait and see what happens with his free agency status and if he is interested in a reunion, Russell would be a good fit for Los Angeles.
