Lakers Rumors: Klay Thomson might listen to pitch from Los Angeles

Recent Lakers rumors are that Klay Thompson might meet with the Los Angeles Lakers if the Golden State Warriors don’t offer him a max contract.

Thursday was a big day for the Los Angeles Lakers. After some speculation, they were able to trade the contracts necessary to the Washington Wizards to clear enough cap space for a max free agent.

Now that Lakers have the money to sign a max level free agent, the Lakers rumors are swirling profusely. Some of the top free agents seemed a bit hesitant to commit to meeting with the Lakers because of the cap situation, but that is now not an issue.

A lot of credit has to go out to Rob Pelinka for pulling off the Davis trade, and giving the team enough money to sign a max level free agent. When free agency opens, the Lakers will be major players for not only solid role players, but also for a third star now.

According to Brad Turner, Klay Thompson might meet with the Lakers if the Golden State Warriors don’t offer him a max contract.

Thompson has always seemed to be the afterthought in Golden State with Stephen Curry to start, and then of course even more so with Kevin Durant. However, Thompson is a great player, and one deserving of a max deal.

In the NBA Finals, Thompson did tear his ACL, which required surgery. However, he is still young and should be able to recover from the injury. As a great shooter and defender, Thompson would be an excellent pickup for the Lakers when he is healthy once again. The floor spacing he would provide would be perfect alongside James and Davis.

While there is no denying the talent of Thompson, the only question is when he might be back. The Lakers are certainly in a win-now mode after trading for Davis. Depending on how quickly Thompson could get back on the court might determine the Lakers’ level of interest.

With free agency opening up soon, Thompson will be one of the likely many names potentially linked to the Lakers. After clearing the cap space, the Lakers became a more realistic option for the star free agents like Thompson.
