Los Angeles Lakers: 3 Superstars to pursue in free agency
Kyrie Irving
With the Lakers giving up half of the roster to get Anthony Davis and freeing up $32m in cap space, it goes without saying that the Lakers need help at point guard. Look no further than one of LeBron’s best ever teammates in Kyrie Irving. While they have split from each other in the past, they have been able to mend this relationship over the last season. Kyrie saw that is not easy being the leader of a team full of young players, who are not fully prepared to win yet.
In Kyrie Irving you get one of the best point guards in the league. On any given night Kyrie can make even the best defenders in the NBA look silly with a dazzling array of tricks including a killer cross over. Kyrie seemingly has the ball on a string. I would go so far to say as Kyrie has one of the best handles in NBA history.
His fit with LeBron would be ideal as they had already perfected this together while winning a championship against an All-Time great team in the Golden State Warriors. Add Davis to this equation and it is yet another weapon Kyrie can dish the ball to and who will get Kyrie even better looks, as they will have to keep a watchful eye on what James and Davis can do.
While he has been pretty injury prone over the last number of seasons, betting on Kyrie is worth the risk. In an NBA market where many players will get a max deal, Kyrie is one of 4 players who is deserving of a max deal.
While Kyrie has great interest in potentially suiting up for the Brooklyn Nets, he might be scared off by not having a second superstar in Kevin Durant (who is seen as a likely candidate to join Kyrie on the Nets). He would have a similar situation to what he had in Boston with a bunch of young up and coming players he would have to be the leader of. With the Lakers, Kyrie would have seasoned veterans who have been through championship runs and would know there role.
