Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors involve the coaching staff, as Ron Adams will reportedly remain with the Golden State Warriors.

There have been plenty of Los Angeles Lakers rumors to sift through in recent weeks. With the NBA Draft and free agency, for the most part, behind us, we now have an idea of what the Lakers roster will look like.

Now, there will be questions for the coaching staff and how those players will be used. The starting five has already been discussed, as it was reported that LeBron James would be starting at point guard. However, Frank Vogel shot those rumors down, at least for now.

While the organization has filled out the roster, the coaching staff is still looking to be filled. Los Angeles landed two big-named assistants in Jason Kidd and Lionel Hollins. Vogel and Hollins are strong defensive minds, and the team looked to bolster that with Ron Adams.

Adams is known as a defensive maestro and is regarded as one of the best defensive minds in the league. He has put that to work since 2014 with the Golden State Warriors when he joined Steve Kerr‘s staff. That collective groan you heard was New York Knicks fans remembering they missed out on Kerr and landed Derek Fisher instead.

A few weeks ago, the Lakers looked like they could add Adams to their staff, as they received permission to talk to Adams about joining the team’s staff.

Adams would have given the Lakers another highly respected assistant on their staff. The defense has been an issue for them in recent seasons and Adams would have helped turn that around. However, it doesn’t sound like adding Adams to the staff will occur.

According to Ohm Youngmusik of ESPN, Adams will remain in a revised role with the Warriors coaching staff. That is too bad for the Lakers, as Adams would have been a great addition to round out the coaching staff.

Adams has been in the coaching game for a very long time. Throughout his career, Adams has worked alongside some great coaches. Jerry Tarkanian at UNLV, George Karl with the Milwaukee Bucks, Scott Skiles with the Chicago Bulls, Scott Brooks with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Tom Thibodeau with the Bulls again and Brad Stevens with the Boston Celtics.

Adams would have been a great addition to the Lakers in what has been a crazy offseason. Instead, they will have to look elsewhere to fill out Vogel’s staff for his first season in Los Angeles.
