Recently signed Troy Daniels is ready to do whatever it takes to help the Los Angeles Lakers win this season.
The Los Angeles Lakers came into this offseason with the clear goal of improving their shooting.
Last season, the Lakers were one of the worst shooting teams in the league. At the trade deadline, the Lakers did try to improve in this area, as they traded for Reggie Bullock and Mike Muscala. However, it was too little too late at that point in the season.
With Rob Pelinka now running the show on his own, he has surrounded LeBron James with some quality depth, and guys that can shoot the basketball. One of the additions this offseason was veteran, Troy Daniels.
Daniels has been in the league for six seasons as mostly a guy off the bench. However, he has started to find his groove a bit more over the past few seasons. With the depth that the Lakers have, Daniels might not find himself playing as much as he did with the Phoenix Suns the last two seasons. However, he seems ready to prove what he can do and embrace whatever his role is. Here’s what he said via Harrison Faigen of Silver Screen and Roll.
"“Obviously I’m gonna have to go out there and compete and showcase what I can do at a high level and play against other guys, but I’ll be ready for that,” Daniels said. “Who knows? I might even go 20 games without playing, but when the opportunity presents itself I’ll be ready. I can’t worry about playing time, I can’t control that.”"
Since the Lakers have a ton of depth on paper coming into this season, minutes might be hard to come by for a guy like Daniels. However, he will be one of the best shooters on the team, and if the Lakers need to make some three-pointers, his number might be called.
In his career, Daniels is a 40 percent shooter from beyond the arc. While he has never played a ton of minutes, he has averaged 4.4 attempts per game from beyond the arc. Clearly, when Daniels is on the court, he is ready to space the floor and shoot.
Daniels has only played in 14 career playoff games, so he doesn’t have a ton of experience on a winning team. However, that should change this year with the Lakers. While he might have to impress to secure a role in the rotation, Daniels can certainly provide help in the shooting department.
