Frank Vogel of the Los Angeles Lakers recently spoke about DeMarcus Cousins regaining his form.

One of the potential steals for the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason was the signing of DeMarcus Cousins.

For a few years, Cousins has been regarded as one of the best big men in the NBA. However, his talent never translated to much success with the Sacramento Kings. Cousins was eventually dealt by the Kings to the New Orleans Pelicans, as the deal created a great big man duo in New Orleans.

With Cousins and Anthony Davis, the Pelicans looked like they were poised to make some noise in the Western Conference. However, Cousins suffered a torn Achilles, which ended his season early.

Last summer, Cousins took a one-year deal to join the Golden State Warriors. With it being known that he was going to miss a good chunk of the season, last season was all about getting healthy and some of the rust off.

With last season now behind, Cousins is hoping to once again return to the elite player he once was. Recently, Frank Vogel talked about Cousins regaining his form. Here’s what he said to Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times.

"“This is the year that I think that [he] hopefully starts to really gain his form, and if he does, then we have one of the most powerful, dominant players in the game,” Vogel said."

Since Cousins was able to knock some of the rust off last season, this could be the year that we see him regain his form. It was pretty surprising to see that more teams weren’t willing to take a chance on Cousins. He is still under 30-years-old, and was an All-Star just a couple seasons ago.

If Cousins is able to play near an All-Star level, the Lakers will have the third star that they desired on a cheap one-year deal. So far this offseason, Cousins appears to be in great shape.

Since he hasn’t received that big contract that surely looked like it was coming to him, he should be extremely motivated this season. For the Lakers, a healthy and productive Cousins could be the X-Factor and a reason why they have a successful season.
