Lakers Rumors: Anthony Davis to skip FIBA Basketball World Cup
Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors involve Anthony Davis, who will reportedly skip the FIBA Basketball World Cup in September.
Los Angeles Lakers rumors involving the team have begun quieting down in recent days. With Summer League concluded and with almost all of the available money for free agency spent, things have slowed down on the news front. However, Anthony Davis made some headlines recently.
Davis has had a busy summer. He will be moving from New Orleans to Los Angeles after getting acquired via trade prior to the 2019 NBA Draft. He will be in a featured film alongside LeBron James in Space Jam 2.
Davis found out that he is the highest-rated big man in NBA 2K20 as well. 2K is also how he picked his new jersey number, No. 3. as he was unable to be gifted No. 23 by James as originally believed. He was back in the news this week as fans will have to wait until at least the preseason to see him in action on the court.
According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Davis will not be taking part in Team USA’s training camp. As a result, he has also removed his name from consideration for the FIBA Basketball World Cup in September. Davis does intend to be at the camp in August to support his teammates, but he will not be taking part.

Davis will not be taking part in camp so that he can focus on preparing for a championship run with the Lakers during the 2019-20 season. In what has been a hectic summer for Davis, it makes sense that he wants to focus on getting ready for the upcoming season, and fans won’t be disappointed to hear that.
Davis has struggled with staying healthy, so the less basketball he plays prior to debuting for the Lakers the better. The most games Davis has played in during a single season is 75, which he did twice.
Compared to other players taking part in the training camp, Davis has very little to prove. He is already a gold medalist, taking home a gold medal with Team USA in 2012 during the Olympics in London.
While he is not taking part in training camp the FIBA Basketball World Cup this summer, he still plans to represent Team USA at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
