1. Carmelo Anthony
If, and this is a gigantic IF, Carmelo Anthony is willing to accept a much-lessened role and a lot fewer minutes then he can perhaps have a role on this Lakers team (even writing that made me feel dirty).
Melo is nowhere close to the offensive-minded juggernaut he was back in Denver and New York, however, the Lakers won’t need him to be that guy anymore. If Carmelo accepted a role he would be a scoring option off the bench capable of hitting wide open 3-point shots and doing very little else.
He is a terrible defender, not to say at any point in his career he was a plus defender, but if Melo was able to shave off some pounds he would be a bit more capable of staying in front of his man.
He also can play some minutes at power forward if needed and I’d be very curious to see him in a small ball center role in limited minutes as he has the wide array of post moves to give opposing big men some problems.
Hopefully, Melo can accept that his best days are behind him and that he can still contribute. If he is able to do that, he might be able to help the Lakers in a playoff run and in return get himself a ring in the process.
