When the Lakers signed LeBron James, it was clear that they were looking to build a title contender. Unfortunately, mostly due to injuries, the Lakers were not able to have the success that they should have last season.
This led to a lot of turmoil in Los Angeles, as the young core didn’t come along quickly enough. When things were going poorly last season, there were also a lot of trade rumors surrounding Anthony Davis. With the Pelicans not going anywhere, Davis informed them that he would not be re-signing. This was similar to what happened with Paul George and the Pacers not too long ago. However, in Davis’ case, he wasn’t traded right away.
With a new front office in New Orleans, the Lakers were able to get the job done this summer. The price was not cheap for Davis as expected, but the Lakers now have two superstars.
As a high profile player switching teams, the pressure will certainly be on Davis to succeed with the Lakers. The Lakers have a long history of great big men, and Davis will be looking to follow in their footsteps.
