Los Angeles Lakers: 4 reasons fans should embrace Quinn Cook
1. Quinn Cook wants to be in Los Angeles and has ties to Lakers
The Lakers have now three former Golden State Warriors on the roster: JaVale McGee, DeMarcus Cousins and now Cook. He already played with Anthony Davis on the Pelicans and coming out of high school as well. He told Harrison Faigen of Silver Screen and Roll that he grew up a Lakers fan.
With all this talk about the Clippers stars and if Kawhi Leonard grew up a Lakers fan, it’s refreshing to have a player on the roster who dreamed of playing for the Lakers. By the way, Leonard did say that he did not grow up a Lakers fan, but Cook did.
That should mean something to Lakers fans who can resonate, who have been Lakers fans since they can remember. This is something that LeBron can’t claim, and frankly didn’t help him connect with Lakers fans, but it is nice to have a player on the team who feels this way and thus Lakers fans should embrace him.
In addition, Cook already has great relationships on the team, “AD was the first person to call me during the free-agency process.” He and Davis played together as McDonald All-Americans, so they already had a relationship.
Cook mentioned to Faigen how he and Cousins have a lot in common as well as in they both, “Have a lot to prove because of how our season ended last year — I’m so happy to get back with DeMarcus. I know he’s excited to get the season going too.”
Chips on their shoulders, that is something you need sometimes, to prove to media that are critical that they were wrong about you.
One thing Cook let us in on is that the team is working on chemistry, or already have it. That he is already working hard to get ready for next season and that he is working out with Lebron.
"We have our team group chat going and the guys are very active in it. It feels like this team has been together for a while. Everyone has been really active in the group chat. Ever since I signed, I went straight to Los Angeles and I’ve been working out with Bron, Kuz, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and JaVale [McGee]."
Cook is not only happy to be a Laker, he signed a two-year six million dollar deal after making roughly $245K in his first two years in the league, that is a huge accomplishment for this NCAA and High School star who will hopefully get his chance to shine for his team in more ways than one, the Los Angeles Lakers.
