Recent Lakers rumors are that Rich Paul likes the idea of Anthony Davis in New York if the Lakers implode next season.

With the summer in full swing and not a lot of news around the NBA, recent Lakers rumors are about Anthony Davis.

This offseason, the Lakers gave up quite a bit in order to trade for Anthony Davis. This move was something that the Lakers were trying to accomplish going back to last season, and they finally got it done.

While the pairing of LeBron James and Anthony Davis looks amazing on paper, there are no guarantees that they will be successful. In addition to that, Davis isn’t signed beyond this season with the Lakers, even though it has been widely expected that he won’t be going anywhere next summer.

However, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, likes the idea of Davis in New York if the Lakers implode.

"The 2020 free-agent pool is short on stars, but they could be one of the favorites for big fish Anthony Davis if the Lakers implode. Rich Paul, Davis’ agent, likes the idea of his client in New York, according to a source."

As his agent, Paul has to be thinking about the future of Davis, even though he will likely be staying in Los Angeles. If all things went wrong in Los Angeles this season and they once again turned into a mess like we saw last season, Davis might entertain the idea of testing free agency.

Compared to the 2019 class, next summer will be a weak on in terms of top-level talent. Davis would be the best player available, and have plenty of suitors. While the New York Knicks haven’t been good in a long time, they do have some decent young assets, and Davis would clearly be the top dog in one of the biggest markets.

Hopefully for the Lakers, this won’t be an issue this summer. As long as they have a good season like they should, Davis’ future should be in Los Angeles. However, they have to be aware that there is no guarantee that he will be staying if things go horribly wrong.
