DeMarcus Cousins of the Los Angeles Lakers has gone down with a torn ACL.
It is a sad news that according to Shams Charania, center DeMarcus Cousins has sustained another major injury in his tortuous career.
The center, who had suffered a torn Achilles a year ago and just recovered from a torn quad, will have to go through another challenge in his NBA career, having to recover from the third consecutive injury that plagued him through the last two seasons.
It is still not clear if it is that same left leg which had to endure those past trials, but chances are that it is the case. As previously noted, that leg will never be the same and always more exposed to injuries.
This is a major setback for both Cousins and the Lakers.
After a good season in Golden State, Boogie was looking to rebound from injuries and prove himself while contributing to the Lakers championship run. He had already shed some weight and was finally able to work the whole summer on his game instead of rehabbing from injuries. Now, his career is once more on the line.
While a torn ACL does not represent an insurmountable obstacle as of today, with players recovering and coming back 100%, adding it to a torn Achilles means putting a lot of strain on a player’s body, and possibly the chance to never come back to what he used to be.
The Lakers, on their side, hoped to have signed to a bargain deal a center on the verge to return to his All-Star form and to couple him once more with former teammate Anthony Davis. They had moderate success in New Orleans as a duo and expectations were that, thanks to LeBron James’ presence, things would have worked out seamlessly for the two big men.
A stretch-five was what was missing to the Lakers’ roster and DMC looked like the answer. One-year, $3.5 million contract foretold a limited role for DeMarcus, but hungry to prove himself he might have given a valuable contribution.
Prayers go to Cousins for a fast and complete recovery and soon the entire league will be felt. He has another hard path in front of him, but he certainly will face it with the necessary determination to work his way back to the league and regain control of his career.
