Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors involve Dwight Howard, as it sounds like he will be joining the purple and gold after getting bought out by the Memphis Grizzlies.

There have been plenty of Los Angeles Lakers rumors in recent days. Following the injury to center DeMarcus Cousins, there have been a number of Lakers rumors about which center they may sign to replace him.

Los Angeles had a few options they were considering, as bringing another center aboard was a necessity. JaVale McGee is the only healthy, true center currently on the roster. Anthony Davis is capable of playing in the middle, but he prefers to play power forward.

As a result, a move had to be made. The Lakers were reportedly holding a roster spot open with an eye toward signing Andre Iguodala should he secure a buyout from the Memphis Grizzlies.

Well, the Lakers are going to sign a player that is bought out by the Grizzlies, it just won’t be Iguodala.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Grizzlies have agreed to a buyout with center Dwight Howard. Once Howard clears waivers, he intends to sign with the Lakers.

The Lakers and Howard have been connected for a few weeks now. The injury to Cousins caused those rumors to grow even louder, and he will now be joining the purple and gold for the second time in his career.

His first stint in Los Angeles was not pretty. He did not get along with Kobe Bryant very well and the team fell well short of expectations. Howard left after one season, signing a free agent deal with the Houston Rockets instead of re-signing with the Lakers.

As a result, Howard left a bad taste in the mouths of Laker fans. But, as they say, time heals all wounds and that would seem to be the case here. It would have been hard to believe back then that Howard would ever wear a Lakers jersey again, but here we are.

With Howard back in the fold, a glaring hole has been filled. He should fill a role similar to what Tyson Chandler filled last season with the team.

Injuries have derailed Howard in recent seasons, but he will have a chance to get things together as a complementary player on a strong Lakers roster.
