With training camp right around the corner for the Los Angeles Lakers, Frank Vogel has wisely began to temper expectations.

The Los Angeles Lakers are poised to have a very strong season coming up, but like all teams, things could not go according to plan.

This summer, the Lakers were able to make some big moves to set the franchise back on the right track. Let’s not forget, the Lakers looked like an absolute mess to end the season and in the beginning of the summer. However, it appears like the front office and ownership have gotten things under control, and the Lakers have put together a strong roster.

While things look good on paper for the Lakers, they might not be firing on all cylinders right away. With all of the new faces and a new coaching staff, it might take some time for the Lakers to gel this season.

Recently, Frank Vogel tried to temper some of the expectations to start the season. Here’s what he said to Steve Aschburner of NBA.com.

"We have the pieces to compete for a championship. To have expectations that it’s all going to come together immediately might be reaching a little bit. I’m sure we’ll have some bumps in the road. But hopefully as these guys gel … we have a number of guys with terrific resumes, but they have to learn each other. And they’ll have to learn each other quickly. Then we’ll be in the mix for the regular season and positioning ourselves for a playoff run. You just never know how quickly that process is going to play out. So hopefully, whatever the regular season looks like, by the time you get into the playoffs you’re gelling at the right time and playing your best basketball."

Vogel is very wise to try and temper some of the expectations for the Lakers. While they do have a talented roster, we have seen that it can take time for new teammates to gel with one another. For the Lakers, this will once again be a very important time coming up.

For teams that don’t have a lot of roster changes, training camp and the preseason doesn’t mean a whole lot. However, the Lakers will be looking to find out what rotations they will be using, who works best with who, and also getting used to new offensive and defensive schemes.

Hopefully, the Lakers will have a strong camp and preseason heading into the start of the regular season. Everyone is very aware of what the team can accomplish this season, but realistically, it won’t happen overnight.
