The Los Angeles Lakers re-vamped their roster from top to bottom, but how much better is this team than last year’s?

The 2019-2020 Los Angeles Lakers roster is a far cry from the one that took the court just one year ago. The young core that the Lakers had been building for the better part of five years was swapped for a bonafide superstar in Anthony Davis, and the supporting cast that was signed in free-agency consisted for the most part of solid veteran players.

In addition, the team has brought on an almost brand new coaching staff means that on top of having a new roster, they are also going to have a different style of play from last year, especially on the offensive end. The lack of shooting was remedied with this year’s roster as four out of the five positions now have at least one player with a reliable 3-point shot.

However, positions are a tricky thing to pin down, especially in today’s NBA where players are constantly sliding up or down in position depending on team need and matchup. The traditional methods of position classification are rather archaic in some ways, but they still provide a good basis for what we can expect from the team as a whole.

With all that in mind, let’s look and see how last year’s Lakers team compares to this year’s.
