On Media Day, LeBron James commented about the job that the front office for the Los Angeles Lakers did this summer.
With Media Day coming and going for the Los Angeles Lakers, it just means that we are getting closer to the start of the regular season.
For the Lakers, this will be a different looking team compared to last season. While the Lakers got off to a good start last year, things fell apart when injuries and drama hit.
This offseason, the front office for the Lakers did a great job on paper. They were first able to accomplish their goal of getting a second superstar in a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans. The addition of Davis was key for the Lakers, as they now have a true second star next to LeBron James.
After the addition of Davis, the Lakers went all-in on Kawhi Leonard. The franchise clearly thought they had a good chance of landing him, and Leonard is the type of player that is worth waiting for.
Unfortunately, Leonard didn’t sign with the Lakers, but the franchise clearly had a backup plan in place. Shortly after Leonard chose the Clippers, the Lakers went out and filled out their roster with some quality depth.
At Media Day, James recently spoke out about the job that the front office did this summer. Here’s what he said via Anthony Irwin of Silver Screen and Roll.
"“I think Rob (Pelinka), Kurt (Rambis), Linda (Rambis) and Jeanie (Buss) and everybody else did a hell of a job this summer. From acquiring AD to acquiring everyone that’s a part of this team, to bringing back the guys that were free agents last year, bringing them back to the roster, they did a hell of a job, and… hand-picking the coaching staff as they did,” James told reporters."
There were certainly some concerns about the front office to start the offseason. Due to all of the issues from Magic Johnson resigning to the head coaching search issues, many lost faith in the Lakers’ brass.
However, the moves made by the Lakers this offseason have instilled a new confidence in Pelinka and the front office. With the roster looking good on paper for the Lakers, the new coaching staff and players will have to now get the job done on the court.
