2. He will be playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis

To stay with the theme of Cooks’ social media posts, he proved earlier this month that he is excited for this season for a few specific reasons. On Sept. 5 he shared his excitement on Twitter.

Jason Kidd, Rondo, and LeBron James are three of the most knowledgeable basketball minds currently around the game of basketball, so Cook’s excitement is justified. Logic would point to Cook making improvements in his game this season with that experience around him, especially in his passing ability, which has a ton of room for improvement.

Playing alongside stars like James and Davis should allow Cook to play to his strengths. Cook fits the mold of the point guards that were successful during James’ run in Miami with two legendary offensive players dominating the ball.

Guys like Mario Chalmers, Norris Cole, and Eddie House were never stand out players, but they could all hit the big 3-point shot when called upon. A skill set that Cook has proven he can replicate when given the opportunity as well.

LeBron also had success early in his career in Cleveland playing with guys with similar skill sets to Cook as well. Both Daniel Gibson (who went to the finals with LeBron), and Mo Williams (won a title with LeBron) were smaller guards with a solid 3-point shot that had success playing with King James.

The best part of playing with players as great as LeBron and Davis is that they can make up for the shortcomings of the players around them. Davis will be able to protect the rim and make up for any guard that is going to blow by Cook on the perimeter. When it comes to James, he will be able to be the one to initiate the offense and be the primary playmaker, allowing Cook to stretch the floor and hit threes.

This offseason it has seemed as if Cook has realized that he should start to build chemistry with the two Lakers’ stars as soon as he can. He was spotted sitting next to the pair of All-Stars during one of the Lakers’ summer league games, and he is smart to do so.
