Recent Lakers rumors have been about Anthony Davis and his potential free agency status for this offseason.

With the start of the regular season a few days ago, there haven’t been a ton of Lakers rumors.

While everyone is focused on basketball, the Lakers do have a big question looming in free agency. After trading most of their young core for Anthony Davis, the Lakers plan to have him as a cornerstone of the franchise for years to come.

However, Davis is a free agent and the end of this season and signing him to a long-term deal must be the top priority for the Lakers. Davis is an extremely talented player who can help lead the Lakers to a title this year and for years to come.

While all indications are that he wants to be in Los Angeles long-term, nothing is a certainty in the NBA. Recently, Sam Amick of The Athletic reported that a source close to Davis said that basically all the Lakers have to do is not mess it up regarding his free agency.

The Lakers are certainly the heavy favorites to keep Davis, but problems can always arise to make him think a bit more about his decision.

After a strong offseason, the Lakers are expected to be one of the best teams in the Western Conference. With Davis and LeBron James, the Lakers have one of the best duos in the NBA. This should translate into success, and success should keep Davis happy.

While the Lakers seem to be on a good path now, there was a lot of dysfunction not too long ago. Hopefully that is all in the past, but anything like the situation that happened with Magic Johnson, the front office and other things could make Davis reconsider.

If nothing unforeseen happens, the Lakers should have no problem getting Davis to sign long-term. However, there is always that small chance that he could go elsewhere if things go sideways for the Lakers.
