In the win over the Utah Jazz, Frank Vogel made a lineup switch to start the second half that played a big part in the Los Angles Lakers winning the game.
Coming off a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers to start the season, the Los Angeles Lakers were looking to get their first win of the season. Despite still being without Kyle Kuzma and Rajon Rondo, the Lakers were able to get the win over the Utah Jazz.
This was not a pretty game to watch in the first half if you were a fan of watching offense. The Lakers went into the half with a 43-37 win, and the defense looked great for the Lakers.
Coming into the season, defense was a priority for the Lakers, and they certainly did a good job on that end of the court. After a quick run to start the game for the Jazz, Frank Vogel called an early timeout. The team responded really nicely after the early timeout, and the defense was locked in.
Despite playing some of the best defense that we have seen from the purple and gold in years, the Lakers only had a six-point lead at halftime. The offense for the Lakers in first half had a lot of struggles, especially when LeBron James was off the court.
Without Rondo, the Lakers clearly have been missing a facilitator with James off the court. However, a lineup switch to start the second half for the Lakers really plaid off.
After not playing in the first game of the season, Vogel turned to Alex Caruso to start the second half for the Lakers. The Lakers went with a smaller lineup, as JaVale McGee didn’t start the second half.
With another capable ball-handler in Caruso, and Anthony Davis playing center, the offense looked a lot better for the Lakers. There has been a lot of speculation about how much Davis would be playing at center, but the Lakers are clearly going to be using him at the position when they need him there.
Vogel deserves a lot of credit for making these adjustments to start the second half. With the roster missing two key pieces, Vogel did a good job in-game making a change to help get the team a victory.
