Los Angeles Lakers: Ranking the 10 best jerseys of all time
By Ethan Temkin
1.) Showtime Gold (1978-1999)
This shouldn’t be that much of a surprise. If this jersey can be described in one word, it would be ‘timeless’.
These jerseys represent a time when the Lakers were Showtime; where they won five NBA titles over the course of the 1980s led by the dynamic trio of Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy. These jerseys are as iconic as they are elegant as one look at these jerseys instantly transports you back to a seminal moment in not only Laker history, but the league as a whole.
In fact, many aspects of this jersey, such as the drop shadow effect on the numbers, were so popular and revered, that the team brought them back for their current home/away variants. The bottom line is that every aspect of this jersey design is gorgeous to look at, and just feels right whenever you turn on a Hardwood Classics game.
We’ve explored a lot of different jerseys throughout the Lakers’ illustrious history, from Christmas Day uniforms, creative alternates, and home/away variants from different eras. But no matter what, we are always drawn back to the Showtime era.
The Laker teams during this time, along with the uniforms they wore, were easily the most successful, iconic, memorable in all of Laker history, and as such, are deserving of the No. 1 spot for the best Laker jersey of all time.
