Even with some convincing early-season victories in the 2019-20 NBA season, there are still some issues that this Los Angeles Lakers team needs to figure out.

The most obvious of these problems the Los Angeles Lakers are facing is the lack of reliable point guard play outside of the team’s de-facto PG, LeBron James. Some of this has to do with Rajon Rondo being out due to injury, but even when Rondo returns, there is always the chance that he can be injured again, and if that happens, the team needs to have a backup option.

Players labeled as point guards such as Quinn Cook and Alex Caruso don’t really fit the bill of a traditional playmaker, and while Caruso had a positive showing in his first couple of games of the season against the Jazz, it never hurts to add another true point guard option to the team.

Given that the Lakers don’t have much in the way of trade capital, and all contracts signed this offseason can’t be traded until December 15th, the team will have to look at the free-agent market if they want to add another piece.

At the end of the day, the team isn’t looking for someone to play starter-level minutes, but instead provide a stop-gap when James goes to the bench, who is able to put Anthony Davis in positions to succeed.

The roster is currently full, but they could look to add someone later on in the season. If they do, these are five players that the Lakers could target to add to the roster.
