With five games in the books, the Los Angeles Lakers are 4-1. Let’s take a look at what contributed to this hot start, and examine the three biggest surprises from these past five games.

The Los Angeles Lakers have so far played five games, and after an opening night loss to the LA Clippers, the team has bounced and rattled off four straight wins against the Utah Jazz, Charlotte Hornets, Memphis Grizzlies, and Dallas Mavericks.

The superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis showed out in the last two games, with Davis dropping a monster 40 point, 20 rebound game against the Grizzlies and LeBron James looking like he never lost a stop, en route to a 39 point, 12 rebound, and 16 assist overtime victory against the Mavericks.

But look, the outstanding play of these two comes as no surprise; Davis and James have been exactly as advertised. While these two have been showing out, the rest of the team has also stepped out and made meaningful contributions, and are slowly, but surely starting to gel and reach the potential that we knew this team always had.

Avery Bradley and Danny Green have been huge for maintaining the Laker’s perimeter defense. Dwight Howard, and JaVale McGee have been instrumental in the team’s interior defense and rebounding. Quinn Cook and Troy Daniels have been providing the team with much needed shooting and floor spacing.

However, taking a deeper look into the last five games, there are have been several surprising developments that Laker fans should definitely be encouraged by going forward. With that in mind, here are the three most surprising takeaways from the Laker’s first five games.
