Los Angeles Lakers: Anthony Davis breaks out of slump against Thunder
By Nick Ziegler
In the win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, Anthony Davis broke out of his mini-slump for the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers were able to earn their 12th win of the season, by defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night. The win was the fifth straight for the team, and they are proving to be one of the best teams in the league.
While the Lakers have been playing great, there have been some notable injury concerns. Arguably the most important has been the shoulder of Anthony Davis. With a good opportunity against the Golden State Warriors, the Lakers elected to rest Davis that night to hopefully help his shoulder feel a bit better.
However, in the two games following, Davis didn’t perform all that well. In a narrow win over the Sacramento Kings, Davis scored just 17 points on 41 percent shooting from the field with five rebounds. In the following game, Davis once again struggled on the offensive end against the Atlanta Hawks, as he scored just 14 points while grabbing one rebound.
With two pretty poor games in a row on the offensive end, there was some concern about the status of Davis. However, he bounced back in a big way against the Thunder.
In the win, Davis totaled 34 points on 13-of-24 shooting from the field, which included going 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. One of the troubles for Davis this season has been his outside shooting.
Considering Davis is shooting under 30 percent from the 3-point line this season, it was great to see him have success from deep against the Thunder. Hopefully, the game against the Thunder is an indication that the shoulder is starting to feel better for Davis.
As we have seen when healthy, Davis is a monster on the both ends of the court. The Thunder really had no answer for him when he got rolling, as he hurt them on both the inside and the outside.
Next up for Davis and the Lakers will be another showdown with the Thunder, this time in Oklahoma City. As the Lakers start-up a four-game road-trip, they will hope to see more 30-point outings from Davis.
