The Los Angeles Lakers have some people in a good position to win some hardware, as LeBron James is the early front runner to win the MVP Award, Anthony Davis is in to win his first Defensive Player of the Year Award and Frank Vogel has been the best coach this season.

The start of the 2019-2020 season has been full of intriguing storylines for the Los Angeles Lakers and NBA as a whole.

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo has improved upon his 2018-2019 MVP season.
  • James Harden is scoring at a rate we haven’t seen since an in-his-prime Kobe Bryant averaged 35 points per game while playing next to Smush Parker.
  • Luka Doncic is only 20 years old, yet he’s averaging close to a triple-double while helping propel the Dallas Mavericks to a winning record.
  • The Utah Jazz still have one of the best defenses in the league because of the impressive play of Rudy Gobert.
  • Monty Williams and Nick Nurse have their teams playing exceptional basketball.

The men listed above have all performed particularly well during the early stages of the year. However, the Lakers are sweeping the most critical early awards.

LeBron James is once again playing like the most valuable player in the league. Anthony Davis has become the best defender in the NBA. Also, Frank Vogel has been the most impressive head coach throughout the league to start the regular season.

Let’s take an in-depth look at each award the Lakers have a contender for and how they stack up against the rest of the competition.
