Obviously, a lot of the credit has gone to Anthony Davis and LeBron James this season. The star duo has been absolutely great for the Lakers, and are both in the running for MVP this season. However, it takes more than just stars to win in the NBA.
The Lakers were able to acquire a lot of quality depth this offseason, as they are far deeper than they were last season. One of the players that has played a productive role off the bench is Alex Caruso.
Caruso has become a fan-favorite over the past few years, but his play on the court has drastically improved. Recently, LeBron James talked about what Caruso brings to the table.
Caruso might not fill up a stat sheet, but he brings a lot for the Lakers. In their most recent win against the New Orleans Pelicans, Caruso only totaled two points and two assists in 25 minutes. While Caruso might not have had a ton of points, assists, or rebounds, he had a huge impact on the game.
Against the Pelicans, Caruso finished with a ridiculous +/- of +23. Caruso’s impact on the game helped the Lakers have one of their best comeback wins of the season. With the ability to handle the ball and play great defense, Caruso is very important to the Lakers with Avery Bradley out.
Bradley is certainly one of the best defenders on the team, and one of the top perimeter players on the team. In his absence, Caruso has stepped in nicely to give the Lakers so good minutes.
After being rewarded with a contract this past offseason, Caruso has proved that he deserves to be a player in the NBA. With praise from his teammates, they certainly appreciate what he brings to the team on a nightly basis.
