When Anthony Davis sat out for an ankle injury suffered against the Hawks, the Los Angeles Lakers needed players from the bench to fill the void. The Lakers got that and more thanks to what Dwight Howard’s impact on both sides of the floor.
Due to AD and Kyle Kuzma being out, some thought the Lakers had no chance. One of the main reasons the Lakers played a strong competitive game was due to the energy and drive of Dwight Howard.
It was hustle plays like this the Lakers needed.

Does Carmelo Anthony have better stats? Sure. But he does not have the overall impact on his team winning like Dwight Howard. Portland is playing better these days, but the Los Angeles Lakers are on track to win an NBA title.

Howard hit all ten of his shots to scored a season-high 20 points, grabbed six rebounds (two offensive!) and blocked two shots. Even though the Lakers lost, it is clear that if Davis is shut down for a few games, Howard can fill in nicely.
