Dwight Howard had his best game of the season when AD did not play. He’s got plenty left in the tank!
When Anthony Davis sat out for an ankle injury suffered against the Hawks, the Los Angeles Lakers needed players from the bench to fill the void. The Lakers got that and more thanks to what Dwight Howard’s impact on both sides of the floor.
Due to AD and Kyle Kuzma being out, some thought the Lakers had no chance. One of the main reasons the Lakers played a strong competitive game was due to the energy and drive of Dwight Howard.
It was hustle plays like this the Lakers needed.

Battling four Pacers players for the rebound is just an example of what Howard has done all season long.
Does Carmelo Anthony have better stats? Sure. But he does not have the overall impact on his team winning like Dwight Howard. Portland is playing better these days, but the Los Angeles Lakers are on track to win an NBA title.
Dwight Howard is a major cog in Frank Vogel’s defensive schemes and he’s perfect for the pick and roll offense with LeBron James.

Howard hit all ten of his shots to scored a season-high 20 points, grabbed six rebounds (two offensive!) and blocked two shots. Even though the Lakers lost, it is clear that if Davis is shut down for a few games, Howard can fill in nicely.
