The Los Angeles Lakers have had a great season so far, one of the reasons for it has been the resurrection of Dwight Howard’s career.

As the Los Angeles Lakers continue to have success, the story of Dwight Howard’s comeback continues.

Prior to signing with the Lakers, the reputation of Howard was poor and it looked like Howard’s basketball career was on its last legs. The Lakers didn’t give Howard a guaranteed contract, as they obviously went into the reunion with some hesitations.

As one of the best centers of the last couple of decades, Howard has been taking a step back into a new role the last few seasons. With the Lakers, Howard came in with an open mind and new focus.

Howard likely knew coming to the Lakers was going to be his last chance to repair his reputation. So far, he has done that and has been playing really well in his role with the Lakers.

Recently, LeBron James talked about how nice it has been to see Howard resurrect his career. Here’s what he said via Anthony Irwin of Silver Screen and Roll.

"“I think it’s wonderful. It’s just a shift in his mindset. He came in with just a pure mindset, a selfless mindset, saying he will do whatever it takes to help this ball club win,” James told reporters Sunday night. “His mind was fresh. When your mind is fresh and your mind is at ease, everything else kinda takes care of itself.”"

In just under 20 minutes per game this season, Howard is averaging 7.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game. On the glass especially, Howard is having a big impact on the Lakers, as he is helping them gain extra possessions.

While Howard isn’t the All-Star player that he once was, he is still a very serviceable big man for the Lakers. If not for Howard, the Lakers would likely be relying a lot more on JaVale McGee, and potentially Davis more at the center position.

Considering they signed him late with a lot of uncertainty surrounding him, Howard has blown away expectations. James and Howard used to battle in the Eastern Conference as two of the best players in the league. Now, they will be attempting to win a ring in the Western Conference.

If Howard can help the Lakers win a ring this season, it will be one of the better redemption stories in the NBA this season.
