Los Angeles Lakers: 4 Lessons from win Brooklyn Nets
By Ronald Agers
The Los Angeles Lakers played the Brooklyn Nets in a New York back to back after their win over the Knicks. Defense was the story as the Lakers ran past the Nets in the last quarter.
The Los Angeles Lakers are not the best team in the NBA record wise. But they are really the only game in town overall in the NBA. These guys are bringing back Hollywood to the NBA. After the game, Anthony Davis and LeBron James had a chat with President Bill Clinton. Michael Strahan was at the game. There were enough Lakers fans at the Barclays Center to rival the Nets fans.
Before the game, it was announced that Anthony Davis and LeBron James were voted in as starters for the Western Conference. Frank Vogel and the coaching staff will be on the bench heading up the team at the All-Star game. Lake Show Life might be busy with just a few features in the week leading up to the game. Just saying.
The New York Knicks game the night before reminded most people of those bad biology films that the teacher put in the projector that put you to sleep or just to pray for the bell. What was worse, Zion Williamson almost broke the internet with his exploits in the 4th quarter in New Orleans. Not a good night to do a Lakers post game.
This game was very different (Thank God!) as it was a All-Star type of defensive performance by both teams. Only one team decided to defend in the second half.
One night after shooting a sluggish 44% from the field and just a plain awful 34% from 3 point land, the Los Angeles Lakers found the shooting stroke from nearly everyone that touched the floor in a 128-113 win over the Brooklyn Nets.
The Los Angeles Lakers continue to pile up wins raising their record to 36-9. They are undefeated on back-to-backs this year, which is unheard of in the NBA. After being swept all four games by the New York teams last year, they are one game away from avenging the losses with a sweep of their own. The Lakers have a test in Philadelphia on Saturday, which is another primetime game on ABC.
The NBA world will be watching because LeBron James will be in position to pass Kobe Bryant for 3rd place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. This will be a huge topic of discussion for Kobe fans, LeBron fans, Lakers historians and casuals alike. It will be interesting to see how the event plays out. Especially in Kobe’s hometown of Philadelphia.
After playing a contest that could cure insomnia the night before, the Lakers and Nets put on a shooting clinic from distance in the first half in a good news/bad news scenario. The bad news was the Nets scored the most points in the first half with 70. If you remember the Celtics scored 69 points in their loss. The good news was that the Lakers handed the Nets their highest total with 75.
But when the Lakers’ offense cooled off, the Nets closed the deficit to 95-94 and it seemed like it was going to be a fight to the finish. Then the Lakers stopped playing cat and mouse and ran Brooklyn off the floor with a 26-2 run. To put this in perspective, in the final quarter, with 6:41 left in the game the Nets only scored 2 points.
The Los Angeles Lakers are better than all of the other NBA teams outside of Los Angeles when they care. It’s the truth. Learn to love it.
