Recent Lakers rumors are that DeMarcus Cousins could return to the team next season.
Despite the trade deadline passing, there have still be Lakers rumors about potential roster moves for the Lakers.
Recently, the Lakers decided to waive DeMarcus Cousins in order to sign Markieff Morris. After missing out on Marcus Morris at the trade deadline, the Lakers were able to land his brother after he was bought out from his contract by the Detroit Pistons.
Morris will certainly be a good addition for the Lakers, as he is a power forward that can space the floor as a good 3-point shooter. Getting a big man that can play some defense and shoot the ball well from deep is always a great weapon to have off the bench.
The addition of Morris will give the Lakers some more options when it comes to playing smaller lineups. While the addition of Morris is a good one for the Lakers, it will cost them DeMarcus Cousins, who was waived by the team in order to make room for Morris.
Even though Cousins was waived by the Lakers, a recent report from Joe Vardon of the Athletic reported that Cousins could be back on the team next season. You can read the article from Vardon with a paid subscription to The Athletic here.
Seeing Cousins coming back next season wouldn’t be too big of a surprise. By all accounts, Cousins has been a good teammate this season and is well-liked by LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
The Lakers were willing to give Cousins a chance last season, and there really wouldn’t be a reason why they wouldn’t do it again next season. Prior to all of the injuries, Cousins was one of the best big men in the NBA. While three major leg injuries will likely mean that Cousins won’t be an All-Star again, he could still be a valuable piece of the team next season.
Hopefully Cousins will continue to rehab well and be ready for next season. Despite being waived, don’t be surprised if Cousins is back on the team next season.
